About our School

There are five teaching spaces this year. We have four open learning environments each with two teachers and a full time teacher aide. Our new entrant class is a single class to allow children to settle into school life while keeping numbers low. The current school roll is approximately 160, and has been stable for several years. The school is classified as a Decile 4 school. Our school has a SENCO to plan, support and co-ordinate children with special education needs. Paihia School has several staff in teacher support roles with a range of responsibilities from managing the school office, and leading kapa haka. We have a Library, Wharehui, Wharekai, solar heated swimming pool, Corner of Dreams, three adventure playgrounds, a brightly coloured court with combination hoops, pump track for bikes or scooters, plus a large playing field with rugby and soccer goalposts. Our PTA is very supportive of the school and a great place to meet other parents.

Paihia School is situated in the heart of the ‘birthplace of the nation. The school’s ethnic composition is comprised of 48% Māori, 33% New Zealand European and 19% from all over the world.  Children attending the school come from a wide variety of social and economic backgrounds, due to the unique nature of the population in the Paihia School area. Our children live around the Paihia, Waitangi, Haruru Falls, Watea, Te Haumi, and Opua areas.
